Staying informed
with notifications
M-Board keeps you up to date with platform activity through a real-time notification centre — elections, polls, events, announcements, and security alerts all in one place.
The Notifications Page
Access your notifications at any time via the bell icon in the navigation bar or from your dashboard. The page shows all notifications addressed to you, ordered by date with urgent and high-priority items promoted to the top within each date group.
| View | What it shows |
|---|---|
| All | Every notification — both read and unread. Keyboard shortcut: 1 |
| Unread | Only notifications you haven't opened yet. Keyboard shortcut: 2 |
| Read | Notifications you have already marked as read. Keyboard shortcut: 3 |
Each tab shows a count badge. The page is paginated at 15 notifications per page and auto-refreshes every 2 minutes so new arrivals appear without a manual reload.
Notification Types & Priorities
Every notification carries a type (what kind of message it is) and a priority (how urgently it needs your attention). Both are shown as colour-coded badges on the card.
| Type | Used for |
|---|---|
| Info | General announcements, platform updates, and informational messages |
| Success | Confirmations — registration approved, vote recorded, file shared |
| Warning | Reminders and time-sensitive notices — election closing soon, payment pending |
| Error | Action required — payment rejected, registration declined, account issue |
| Priority | Meaning | Display |
|---|---|---|
| Urgent | Requires immediate attention | Promoted to top of list, red badge |
| High | Important — act soon | Promoted above normal, amber badge |
| Normal | Standard notification | Default order, blue badge |
| Low | Informational only | Listed last, grey badge |
Marking Notifications as Read
- Click the card — clicking anywhere on an unread notification card (outside of buttons or links) marks it as read instantly.
- Mark as Read button — each unread card has an explicit Mark as Read button if you prefer not to expand the card.
- Mark All as Read — the button in the top-right of the page marks every unread notification at once. A confirmation prompt appears before proceeding. Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+A (or Cmd+Shift+A on Mac).
Long Messages
Notifications with long message bodies are automatically truncated with a Read More button. Click it to expand the full message in place. Click Read Less to collapse it again — the page scrolls back to the card automatically so you don't lose your position.
Who Can Send You Notifications
Notifications reach you through four targeting methods. You cannot reply to a notification — use the Contact Support form or email the sender directly.- Individual — addressed specifically to you by an administrator or the platform itself (e.g. your event registration confirmation).
- Department — sent to every active member of your department.
- All Members — a platform-wide broadcast visible to every member.
- Broadcast — similar to All Members but explicitly flagged as a broadcast announcement.
Notification Preferences
You can control whether M-Board sends you email copies of notifications. Go to Profile → Preferences and toggle Email Notifications. When disabled, you will still receive notifications within the platform — only the accompanying emails are suppressed.
